Because we all need a village (and caffeine)

Who we are

Hey everyone! I’m Kate - lover of matcha and seeker of community. I’m so glad you’re here. If you’ve landed on this page, you likely know that I’m the founder and owner of Village Matcha. Let me tell you, it was many a winding road that led me to starting a traveling tea trailer. From a graduate degree in dance, to motherhood, to freelance photography, you may not have guessed this would be my next stop. And yet, it somehow makes perfect sense. As a mom of five, a lifelong artist, and a perpetual seeker of connection and community, I am proud to turn my love of (and obsession with) matcha into an offering of shared space, joy, and ease for families like yours.

The idea of Village Matcha grew organically for me over the course of a couple of years, stemming both from both frustration and desire. As a mom of twin babies (and then twin toddlers!) I often found myself longing for a safe place to gather with others that wasn’t inside my own home. As wonderful as Asheville is, those spaces are few and far between! Even in the most “kid friendly” spaces, I found myself spending the majority of my outings making sure my little ones were safe and not breaking anything rather than enjoying a moment of calm and connection. I decided if the space didn’t exist for me to drink something delicious and talk to friends relatively peacefully, I’d just need to create it! And so, Village Matcha was born.

When I’m not serving up delicious drinks and holding space for connection and play at Village Matcha, I’m pretty much doing the same at home. :) During the rare moments I’m not holding a cup of tea or actively parenting, you might find me hiking, singing, or cooking some delicious vegan food here in Black Mountain with my partner, Alex, our five kiddos (plus a few others I sometimes claim as my own) and two wild and energetic pups. For me, life is full, beautiful, and always an adventure. Thanks for joining me on my journey.
